Briouat (moroccan Almond And Pistachio Baklava)
Briouat is a popular Moroccan pastry made with layers of crispy phyllo dough filled with a sweet and nutty almond and pistachio mixture. This delicious dessert is often enjoyed during special occasions and celebrations.
Ingredients
- 1 cup almonds, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup pistachios, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon orange blossom water
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- 12 sheets phyllo dough
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1/4 cup honey
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix the almonds, pistachios, sugar, cinnamon, and orange blossom water.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Place one sheet of phyllo dough on a clean surface and brush it with melted butter. Place another sheet on top and brush with butter. Repeat with 2 more sheets.
- Cut the layered phyllo into 6 squares.
- Place a spoonful of the nut mixture in the center of each square.
- Fold the phyllo over the filling to form a triangle, then continue folding to the end of the strip.
- Repeat with the remaining phyllo and nut mixture.
- Place the briouats on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and brush with vegetable oil.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
- Drizzle honey over the briouats while they are still warm.
