Buchteln Bliss
Buchteln, also known as Austrian sweet rolls, are a delightful treat that can be enjoyed for breakfast or as a dessert. These fluffy, fruit-filled rolls are sure to bring bliss to your taste buds.
Ingredients
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup warm water
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup fruit jam of your choice
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water and let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt. Add the melted butter, eggs, milk, and vanilla extract. Mix until a soft dough forms.
- Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal portions. Flatten each portion and place a spoonful of fruit jam in the center. Seal the dough around the jam to form a ball.
- Place the filled dough balls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the Buchteln for 25 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and dust with powdered sugar before serving.
