Bulgogi (불고기) Fried Rice

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cooked white rice, chilled
  • 1/2 lb (225g) beef sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1/2 onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 carrot, diced
  • 1/2 cup frozen peas
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • Sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix the soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, and sesame oil. Add the beef slices and marinate for 10 minutes.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a large pan or wok over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef and cook until browned. Remove the beef from the pan and set aside.
  3. In the same pan, add a little more oil if needed and sauté the onion and carrot until they start to soften.
  4. Add the chilled rice to the pan and break up any clumps. Stir-fry for a few minutes until the rice is heated through.
  5. Return the cooked beef to the pan, add the frozen peas, and stir to combine everything.
  6. Finally, add the chopped green onions and give it a final stir. Remove from heat.
  7. Serve the bulgogi fried rice in bowls, garnished with sesame seeds.
