Burek (savory Cheese Pie)

Ingredients

  • 1 package of phyllo dough
  • 1 1/2 cups feta cheese, crumbled
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup plain breadcrumbs
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the feta cheese, ricotta cheese, eggs, milk, salt, and pepper.
  3. Brush a 9x13 inch baking dish with melted butter.
  4. Layer 10 sheets of phyllo dough in the bottom of the baking dish, brushing each sheet with melted butter and sprinkling with breadcrumbs.
  5. Spread the cheese mixture over the phyllo dough.
  6. Layer another 10 sheets of phyllo dough on top of the cheese mixture, brushing each sheet with melted butter and sprinkling with breadcrumbs.
  7. Score the top of the burek into squares or triangles with a sharp knife.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
  9. Allow the burek to cool for a few minutes before serving.
