Burek with Cheese and Spinach (Burek sa Sirom i Spanaćem)
Burek sa Sirom i Spanaćem, also known as Burek with Cheese and Spinach, is a popular Serbian dish made with flaky phyllo dough filled with a savory mixture of cheese and spinach. This delicious pastry is perfect for breakfast, brunch, or as a snack.
Ingredients
- 1 package of phyllo dough
- 1 1/2 cups of crumbled feta cheese
- 2 cups of chopped spinach
- 1/2 cup of melted butter
- 1/4 cup of vegetable oil
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a bowl, mix together the crumbled feta cheese, chopped spinach, salt, and black pepper.
- Unroll the phyllo dough and place a sheet on a clean surface. Brush it with melted butter and oil mixture.
- Place another sheet of phyllo dough on top and brush with the butter and oil mixture. Repeat this process until you have 6 layers.
- Sprinkle half of the cheese and spinach mixture over the layered phyllo dough.
- Roll the layered phyllo dough into a log shape and place it in a greased baking dish.
- Repeat the layering process with the remaining phyllo dough and cheese and spinach mixture.
- Bake the burek in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
