Buryat Mushroom Tart (Buryat: Чайрхан)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
  • 1/4 cup cold water
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cups mushrooms, sliced
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 eggs
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the flour and cold butter. Use your fingers to rub the butter into the flour until it resembles breadcrumbs.
  3. Add the cold water and mix until a dough forms. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  4. Roll out the dough on a floured surface and transfer it to a tart pan. Press the dough into the pan and trim any excess.
  5. In a skillet, sauté the chopped onion and mushrooms until they are soft. Season with salt and pepper.
  6. In a separate bowl, whisk together the sour cream and eggs. Season with salt and pepper.
  7. Spoon the mushroom mixture into the tart shell and pour the sour cream mixture over the top.
  8. Bake for 45 minutes, or until the tart is golden and set.
  9. Let the tart cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
