Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup corn syrup
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the flour and warm water to form a dough. Knead the dough for 5 minutes, then cover and let it rest for 15 minutes.
  2. In a separate bowl, cream together the granulated sugar and softened butter. Add the brown sugar, corn syrup, eggs, and vanilla extract, and mix until well combined.
  3. Divide the dough into 12 equal portions. Roll each portion into a small circle and place a spoonful of the butter tart filling in the center. Seal the baozi by pleating the edges together.
  4. Place the baozi in a steamer and steam for 15-20 minutes, until the dough is cooked through.
  5. Remove from the steamer and let cool slightly before serving.
