This recipe combines the traditional Chinese baozi with the classic Canadian butter tart, resulting in a delicious fusion of flavors.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup butter, softened
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup corn syrup
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix the flour and warm water to form a dough. Knead the dough for 5 minutes, then cover and let it rest for 15 minutes.
- In a separate bowl, cream together the granulated sugar and softened butter. Add the brown sugar, corn syrup, eggs, and vanilla extract, and mix until well combined.
- Divide the dough into 12 equal portions. Roll each portion into a small circle and place a spoonful of the butter tart filling in the center. Seal the baozi by pleating the edges together.
- Place the baozi in a steamer and steam for 15-20 minutes, until the dough is cooked through.
- Remove from the steamer and let cool slightly before serving.
