Byrek Me Mish (albanian Style Meat Pie)
Byrek me Mish is a traditional Albanian meat pie that is popular in Kosovan cuisine. This savory pie is made with a flaky phyllo dough and filled with a flavorful mixture of ground meat, onions, and spices.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef or lamb
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
- 1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese
- 1 package phyllo dough
- 1/2 cup melted butter
Instructions
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened.
- Add the ground meat to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks.
- Season the meat mixture with salt, black pepper, and paprika. Stir in the chopped parsley and remove from heat.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish and layer half of the phyllo dough sheets in the bottom, brushing each sheet with melted butter.
- Spoon the meat mixture over the phyllo dough in an even layer. Sprinkle the crumbled feta cheese on top of the meat.
- Layer the remaining phyllo dough sheets on top of the meat and brush each sheet with melted butter.
- Cut the pie into squares or triangles, then bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the phyllo dough is golden brown and crispy.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
