Byrek Me Spinaq (albanian Spinach Pie)
Byrek me Spinaq, or Albanian Spinach Pie, is a traditional savory pastry dish from Albania. It is made with layers of phyllo dough filled with a mixture of spinach, feta cheese, and herbs, creating a delicious and satisfying meal or snack.
Ingredients
- 1 pound fresh spinach, chopped
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup fresh parsley, chopped
- 1/2 cup feta cheese, crumbled
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 package phyllo dough
- 1/2 cup melted butter
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix together the chopped spinach, onion, parsley, feta cheese, olive oil, salt, and pepper.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Layer 5 sheets of phyllo dough in a greased baking dish, brushing each sheet with melted butter.
- Spread half of the spinach mixture over the phyllo dough.
- Layer 5 more sheets of phyllo dough on top, brushing each sheet with melted butter.
- Spread the remaining spinach mixture over the phyllo dough.
- Layer the remaining phyllo dough sheets on top, again brushing each sheet with melted butter.
- Score the top layer of phyllo dough into squares or triangles using a sharp knife.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the phyllo dough is golden brown and crispy.
- Remove from the oven and allow to cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
