Cabbage and Potato Casserole (Kapustovo-zemiaková zapekaná misa)
Kapustovo-zemiaková zapekaná misa, or Cabbage and Potato Casserole, is a traditional Slovak dish that is hearty, comforting, and perfect for a cozy family meal. This dish is a delicious combination of tender cabbage, creamy potatoes, and flavorful spices, all baked to perfection.
Ingredients
- 1 head of cabbage, shredded
- 4 large potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 cup of vegetable broth
- 1 cup of sour cream
- 1/2 cup of grated cheese
- 2 tablespoons of butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large pot, sauté the onion and garlic in butter until softened.
- Add the shredded cabbage and cook until it wilts.
- Layer half of the sliced potatoes in a greased baking dish.
- Spread the cooked cabbage mixture over the potatoes.
- Layer the remaining potatoes on top of the cabbage.
- In a bowl, mix the vegetable broth and sour cream, then pour over the potatoes and cabbage.
- Sprinkle the grated cheese on top.
- Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
