Cabbage Pie, also known as Zelnik, is a traditional Bulgarian brunch dish that features a delicious combination of cabbage, eggs, and filo pastry. This savory pie is perfect for a leisurely weekend brunch or a special occasion.
Ingredients
- 1 large cabbage, shredded
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3 eggs
- 200g feta cheese, crumbled
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt
- 1/4 cup sunflower oil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 10 sheets filo pastry
- 1/4 cup melted butter
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a large bowl, mix the shredded cabbage, chopped onion, eggs, feta cheese, yogurt, sunflower oil, salt, and black pepper.
- Layer 5 sheets of filo pastry in a greased baking dish, brushing each sheet with melted butter.
- Spread the cabbage mixture over the pastry.
- Layer the remaining 5 sheets of filo pastry on top, again brushing each sheet with melted butter.
- Bake for 40 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown.
- Allow the pie to cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
