Cabbage Rolls, also known as Krautrouladen, are a traditional Austrian dish made with tender cabbage leaves wrapped around a flavorful filling of ground meat, rice, and spices. This hearty and comforting dish is perfect for a cozy family dinner or a special occasion.
Ingredients
- 1 large head of cabbage
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 cup uncooked rice
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1/2 cup tomato sauce
Instructions
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully remove the outer leaves of the cabbage and blanch them in the boiling water for 2-3 minutes. Remove and set aside to cool.
- In a bowl, mix together the ground beef, uncooked rice, chopped onion, minced garlic, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Place a spoonful of the meat mixture onto each cabbage leaf and roll it up, tucking in the sides to form a neat roll.
- Place the cabbage rolls in a large pot and pour the beef broth and tomato sauce over them. Cover and simmer for 1 hour, or until the cabbage is tender and the filling is cooked through.
