Calzone Barese (Bari-style Calzone)

Ingredients

  • 1 pound pizza dough
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh basil
  • 1/4 cup chopped salami
  • 1/4 cup chopped ham
  • 1/4 cup chopped roasted red peppers
  • 1/4 cup chopped black olives
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Divide the pizza dough into 4 equal portions and roll each portion into a 6-inch circle.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the ricotta, mozzarella, Parmesan, tomato sauce, basil, salami, ham, roasted red peppers, olives, salt, and black pepper.
  4. Place a portion of the filling on one half of each dough circle, leaving a border around the edge.
  5. Fold the other half of the dough over the filling to create a half-moon shape and crimp the edges to seal.
  6. Transfer the calzones to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  7. Bake for 20 minutes, or until the calzones are golden brown.
  8. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving.
