Cannelloni del Castello, or Castle Cannelloni, is a traditional dish from the small European country of San Marino. This rich and flavorful pasta dish is a favorite among locals and visitors alike.
Ingredients
- 8 cannelloni tubes
- 250g ricotta cheese
- 100g spinach, cooked and chopped
- 50g Parmesan cheese, grated
- 1 egg, beaten
- 400ml tomato passata
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a bowl, mix the ricotta, spinach, Parmesan, and egg. Season with salt and pepper.
- Using a piping bag or a small spoon, fill the cannelloni tubes with the cheese and spinach mixture.
- In a separate bowl, mix the tomato passata, garlic, and oregano. Season with salt and pepper.
- Spread a thin layer of the tomato sauce on the bottom of a baking dish.
- Arrange the filled cannelloni tubes in the dish and cover with the remaining tomato sauce.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the cannelloni is cooked through and the top is golden.
