Cannoli del Castello, also known as Castle Cannoli, is a traditional dessert from San Marino, a small country in the Apennine Mountains. These crispy pastry shells filled with sweet ricotta cream are a delightful treat for any occasion.
Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup Marsala wine
- 1 egg white
- 1/2 cup ricotta cheese
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup chopped pistachios
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix the flour, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and softened butter. Gradually add the Marsala wine and knead the dough until smooth. Let it rest for 30 minutes.
- Roll out the dough and cut into circles. Wrap each circle around a cannoli tube and seal the edges with egg white.
- Heat oil in a pan and fry the cannoli shells until golden brown. Remove from the oil and let them cool.
- In a separate bowl, mix the ricotta cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Fill the cooled cannoli shells with the ricotta mixture and sprinkle chopped pistachios on the ends.
