Cantonese Char Siu Pork
Cantonese Char Siu Pork is a classic Chinese dish known for its sweet and savory flavors. This recipe will guide you through making tender and flavorful char siu pork at home.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 lbs (680g) pork shoulder
- 3 tbsp hoisin sauce
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 tbsp honey
- 1 tbsp Chinese five-spice powder
- 1 tbsp rice wine or dry sherry
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp sesame oil
Instructions
- Combine hoisin sauce, soy sauce, honey, Chinese five-spice powder, rice wine, garlic, and sesame oil in a bowl to make the marinade.
- Cut the pork shoulder into long strips and place them in a resealable plastic bag. Pour the marinade over the pork, seal the bag, and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Remove the pork from the marinade and place it on a wire rack set over a baking sheet. Reserve the marinade for basting.
- Bake the pork for 30-40 minutes, basting with the reserved marinade every 10 minutes, until the pork is cooked through and caramelized on the outside.
- Let the char siu pork rest for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
