Ingredients

  • 500g beef, cut into cubes
  • 3 large potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 cups coconut milk
  • 2 cups water
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat some oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the onions and garlic, and cook until softened.
  2. Add the beef cubes and cook until browned on all sides.
  3. Stir in the turmeric, coriander, cumin, and paprika, coating the beef evenly with the spices.
  4. Pour in the coconut milk and water, then add the potatoes. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Bring the curry to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 1 hour, or until the beef is tender and the potatoes are cooked through.
  6. Serve the Caril de Carne e Batata hot with steamed rice or crusty bread.
