Carnitas Stove Top
Carnitas, which translates to "little meats," is a traditional Mexican dish of braised and then fried pork. This stove top version allows you to enjoy the delicious flavors of carnitas without needing an outdoor grill or oven.
Ingredients
- 3 lbs pork shoulder, cut into 2-inch pieces
- 1 onion, chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 orange, juiced
- 1 lime, juiced
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
Instructions
- In a large pot, combine the pork, onion, garlic, orange juice, lime juice, cumin, oregano, salt, and pepper.
- Add enough water to cover the pork.
- Bring the pot to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 1.5 hours, or until the pork is tender.
- Once the pork is tender, remove it from the pot and shred it using two forks.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the shredded pork to the skillet and cook until crispy, about 5 minutes.
- Serve the carnitas with tortillas, salsa, guacamole, and your favorite toppings.
