Caymanian Fish Tea
Caymanian Fish Tea is a traditional dish from the Cayman Islands that is a flavorful and comforting fish soup. It is a popular dish in West Indian cuisine and is often enjoyed as a main course.
Ingredients
- 1 lb white fish fillets, such as snapper or grouper
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 bell pepper, chopped
- 1 scotch bonnet pepper, whole
- 1 sprig thyme
- 2 bay leaves
- 6 cups fish or vegetable broth
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tbsp fresh lime juice
Instructions
- In a large pot, bring the fish or vegetable broth to a simmer over medium heat.
- Add the tomatoes, onion, garlic, bell pepper, scotch bonnet pepper, thyme, and bay leaves to the pot.
- Gently place the fish fillets into the simmering broth and cook for 10-15 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through.
- Remove the fish from the pot and set aside. Discard the scotch bonnet pepper, thyme sprig, and bay leaves.
- Using a fork, flake the fish into bite-sized pieces and return it to the pot.
- Stir in the fresh lime juice and season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve the Caymanian Fish Tea hot, garnished with fresh herbs if desired.
