Celtic Knot Apple Pie

Ingredients

  • 6 large Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 package refrigerated pie crusts
  • 1 egg, beaten

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and flour. Toss until the apples are evenly coated.
  3. Line a 9-inch pie dish with one of the pie crusts. Pour the apple mixture into the crust.
  4. Unroll the second pie crust on top of the apple filling. Trim any excess crust and crimp the edges to seal the pie.
  5. Brush the top crust with the beaten egg.
  6. Using a sharp knife, cut a Celtic knot pattern into the top crust.
  7. Bake the pie for 45 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
  8. Allow the pie to cool for at least 30 minutes before serving.
