Cepelinai (zeppelin Dumplings)
Cepelinai, also known as Zeppelin Dumplings, are a traditional Lithuanian dish made from grated and riced potatoes filled with ground meat or cheese. They are named after the famous airship, as their shape resembles a zeppelin.
Ingredients
- 6 large potatoes, peeled and grated
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 500g ground pork or beef
- 200g bacon, diced
- 200g sour cream
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Place the grated potatoes in a clean kitchen towel and squeeze out the excess liquid.
- In a bowl, mix the drained potatoes with eggs, flour, salt, and pepper to form a dough.
- In a separate bowl, combine the ground meat with chopped onion, salt, and pepper.
- Take a portion of the potato dough and flatten it in your hand. Place a spoonful of the meat mixture in the center and shape the dough into an oval dumpling.
- Boil the dumplings in salted water for about 20 minutes until they float to the surface.
- In a pan, fry the diced bacon until crispy.
- Serve the cepelinai topped with sour cream and crispy bacon.
