Cetinje Honey And Walnut Baklava
Baklava is a popular dessert in Montenegrin cuisine, and this recipe adds a local twist by incorporating Cetinje honey and walnuts for a delightful flavor.
Ingredients
- 1 cup Cetinje honey
- 1 cup walnuts, chopped
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 package phyllo dough
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup water
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a saucepan, combine the sugar and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in the Cetinje honey. Set aside to cool.
- In a bowl, mix the chopped walnuts with cinnamon.
- Brush a 9x13 inch baking dish with melted butter. Place a sheet of phyllo dough in the dish and brush with more butter. Repeat with 7 more sheets of phyllo dough, brushing each with butter.
- Sprinkle half of the nut mixture over the layered phyllo dough. Top with 4 more sheets of phyllo, brushing each with butter.
- Sprinkle the remaining nut mixture over the phyllo dough. Top with the remaining phyllo sheets, brushing each with butter.
- Cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes using a sharp knife.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until golden brown and crisp.
- Remove from the oven and immediately pour the cooled honey syrup over the hot baklava.
- Allow the baklava to cool completely before serving.
