Ceviche Nica, or Nicaraguan-style ceviche, is a refreshing and flavorful seafood dish that is perfect for a hot summer day. This dish is typically made with fresh fish or shrimp, marinated in citrus juices and mixed with onions, bell peppers, and cilantro.
Ingredients
- 1 pound fresh white fish or shrimp, diced
- 1 cup freshly squeezed lime juice
- 1/2 cup freshly squeezed orange juice
- 1 red onion, thinly sliced
- 1 bell pepper, diced
- 1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro
- 2-3 jalapeños, seeded and diced
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 avocado, diced (optional)
Instructions
- In a large glass or ceramic bowl, combine the fish or shrimp with the lime and orange juice. Make sure the seafood is completely submerged in the juice. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, stirring occasionally.
- Add the red onion, bell pepper, cilantro, and jalapeños to the marinated seafood. Season with salt and pepper, and gently toss to combine.
- Let the ceviche marinate in the refrigerator for an additional 30 minutes.
- Before serving, gently fold in the diced avocado, if using.
