Ingredients

  • 1 cup chana dal
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 green chili, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 cups vegetable broth
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

Instructions

  1. Rinse the chana dal under running water and drain.
  2. Place the Instant Pot on sauté mode and heat oil. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  3. Add the chopped onion, ginger, garlic, and green chili. Sauté until the onions are soft.
  4. Stir in the tomatoes and spices. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the tomatoes are soft.
  5. Add the drained chana dal, water, and vegetable broth. Close the lid and cook on high pressure for 15 minutes.
  6. Let the pressure release naturally for 10 minutes, then carefully release any remaining pressure.
  7. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot with rice or naan.
