Chana Masala (creamy Chickpea Curry)
Chana Masala, also known as Creamy Chickpea Curry, is a popular Indian dish packed with warm spices and rich flavors. This vegetarian curry is perfect for a cozy dinner and pairs well with rice or naan.
Ingredients
- 2 cans (15 oz) chickpeas, drained and rinsed
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tablespoon grated ginger
- 1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/2 cup coconut milk
- Salt to taste
- Fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large pan over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in the minced garlic and grated ginger, and cook for another 2 minutes.
- Pour in the diced tomatoes and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add the ground cumin, coriander, garam masala, turmeric, and cayenne pepper. Cook for 2 minutes.
- Stir in the drained chickpeas and coconut milk. Simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Season with salt to taste and garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
