Chana Masala (spiced Chickpea Curry)
Chana Masala, also known as Spiced Chickpea Curry, is a popular dish in Anglo-Indian cuisine. It is a flavorful and aromatic curry made with chickpeas, tomatoes, and a blend of spices.
Ingredients
- 2 cans (15 oz) chickpeas, drained and rinsed
- 2 tbsp oil
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1-inch ginger, grated
- 2 green chilies, finely chopped
- 2 tomatoes, finely chopped
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp ground coriander
- 1/2 tsp turmeric
- 1 tsp garam masala
- 1 tsp paprika
- Salt to taste
- 1 cup water
- Fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- Heat oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the onions, garlic, ginger, and green chilies. Sauté until the onions are soft and translucent.
- Add the tomatoes and cook until they are soft and mushy.
- Stir in the ground cumin, coriander, turmeric, garam masala, paprika, and salt. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
- Add the chickpeas and water. Simmer for 15-20 minutes until the curry thickens.
- Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot with rice or naan.
