Channa Gosht (assyrian Lamb And Chickpea Curry)
Channa Gosht is a traditional Assyrian dish that combines tender lamb with hearty chickpeas in a flavorful curry. This comforting and aromatic dish is perfect for a cozy family dinner or special occasions.
Ingredients
- 1 lb lamb, cut into cubes
- 1 cup dried chickpeas, soaked overnight
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 3 tomatoes, diced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1-inch ginger, grated
- 2 green chilies, chopped
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp red chili powder
- 1/2 tsp garam masala
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- Salt to taste
- Fresh cilantro for garnish
Instructions
- Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them sizzle.
- Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
- Stir in minced garlic, grated ginger, and green chilies. Cook for 2 minutes.
- Add the lamb cubes and cook until browned on all sides.
- Stir in diced tomatoes, coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook for 5 minutes.
- Add soaked chickpeas and enough water to cover the ingredients. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 1 hour or until the lamb and chickpeas are tender.
- Sprinkle garam masala and garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
