Ingredients

  • 1 lb lamb, cut into cubes
  • 1 cup dried chickpeas, soaked overnight
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 3 tomatoes, diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch ginger, grated
  • 2 green chilies, chopped
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add cumin seeds and let them sizzle.
  2. Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  3. Stir in minced garlic, grated ginger, and green chilies. Cook for 2 minutes.
  4. Add the lamb cubes and cook until browned on all sides.
  5. Stir in diced tomatoes, coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook for 5 minutes.
  6. Add soaked chickpeas and enough water to cover the ingredients. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 1 hour or until the lamb and chickpeas are tender.
  7. Sprinkle garam masala and garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
