Chao Dou Fu (szechuan Tofu Stir-fry)
Chao Dou Fu, also known as Szechuan Tofu Stir-Fry, is a popular dish in Pakistani Chinese cuisine. It's a flavorful and spicy stir-fry that combines the unique flavors of Szechuan cuisine with the Pakistani love for spicy food.
Ingredients
- 1 block of firm tofu, cubed
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
- 1 bell pepper, sliced
- 1 cup snap peas
- 2 green onions, sliced
- 1 teaspoon Szechuan peppercorns
- 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
Instructions
- In a small bowl, mix together the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and cornstarch. Set aside.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large wok or skillet over high heat. Add the tofu and cook until golden brown on all sides. Remove the tofu from the wok and set aside.
- In the same wok, add the garlic, ginger, bell pepper, and snap peas. Stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until the vegetables are tender-crisp.
- Return the tofu to the wok and add the sauce mixture. Cook for another 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens and coats the tofu and vegetables.
- Sprinkle with Szechuan peppercorns, red pepper flakes, and green onions. Stir to combine.
- Remove from heat and serve hot with steamed rice.
