Chao Ga
Chao ga is a traditional Vietnamese rice porridge dish that is commonly enjoyed as a breakfast or light meal. It is a comforting and nourishing dish that is easy to make and customizable to individual preferences.
Ingredients
- 1 cup jasmine rice
- 6 cups chicken broth
- 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs, thinly sliced
- 1 inch ginger, peeled and thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fish sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Green onions, thinly sliced, for garnish
- Fried shallots, for garnish
Instructions
- In a large pot, bring the chicken broth to a boil.
- Add the rice, ginger, and garlic to the pot. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add the sliced chicken thighs and fish sauce to the pot. Continue to simmer for an additional 20-30 minutes, or until the rice has broken down and the chicken is fully cooked.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve the chao ga hot, garnished with sliced green onions and fried shallots.
