Chao Niu Li (szechuan Beef Stir-fry)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb beef, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Szechuan peppercorns
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 3-4 green onions, chopped
  • 3-4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch ginger, grated
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • Cooked rice or noodles, for serving

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, marinate the beef with soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, Szechuan peppercorns, and cornstarch. Let it sit for 10 minutes.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat. Add the marinated beef and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until browned. Remove the beef from the wok and set aside.
  3. In the same wok, add a little more oil if needed. Stir-fry the garlic, ginger, and green onions for 1-2 minutes.
  4. Add the sliced bell peppers and stir-fry for another 2-3 minutes until they are slightly tender but still crisp.
  5. Return the cooked beef to the wok. Add sugar and sesame oil. Stir-fry everything together for another minute.
  6. Remove from heat and serve the Szechuan beef stir-fry over cooked rice or noodles.
