Chapli Kebab (afghan Lamb Kebabs)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground lamb
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh mint, chopped
  • 2 green chilies, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp ground turmeric
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground lamb, onion, tomatoes, cilantro, mint, green chilies, coriander, cumin, red chili powder, turmeric, black pepper, and salt. Mix well to combine all the ingredients.
  2. Divide the mixture into equal portions and shape them into flat, round kebabs.
  3. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully place the kebabs in the skillet and cook for 5-7 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
  4. Once cooked, remove the kebabs from the skillet and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil.
  5. Serve the Chapli Kebabs hot with naan bread, yogurt sauce, and a side of salad.
