Ingredients
- 500g char siew (barbecue pork), diced
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1/2 teaspoon five-spice powder
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 12 pieces of store-bought or homemade steamed bun dough
Instructions
- In a pan, combine the diced char siew, oyster sauce, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, sugar, sesame oil, and five-spice powder. Cook over medium heat for 5 minutes.
- In a small bowl, mix the water and cornstarch to create a slurry. Add the slurry to the char siew mixture and cook until the sauce thickens. Remove from heat and let it cool.
- Divide the steamed bun dough into 12 equal portions. Flatten each portion into a small disc and place a spoonful of the char siew filling in the center. Gather the edges and pleat to seal the bun.
- Place each filled bun on a square of parchment paper and steam for 15 minutes.
- Serve the Char Siew Bao hot and enjoy!
