Char Siu Sensation (叉烧狂热)

Ingredients

  • 1 lb pork shoulder, cut into long strips
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • 3 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp Chinese rice wine
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp five-spice powder
  • 1/2 tsp red food coloring (optional)
  • 2 tbsp water

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix together honey, hoisin sauce, soy sauce, rice wine, sesame oil, garlic, five-spice powder, food coloring, and water to make the marinade.
  2. Add the pork strips to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Marinate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight.
  3. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  4. Place the marinated pork on a wire rack set over a baking sheet. Roast for 40-45 minutes, basting with the remaining marinade every 10 minutes.
  5. Once the pork is cooked through and caramelized, remove from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
