Cheese and Potato Bake (Zapekané zemiaky s syrom)
Zapekané zemiaky s syrom, or Cheese and Potato Bake, is a classic Slovak dish that is perfect for a cozy family dinner or a gathering with friends. Ingredients
- 6 large potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
- 2 cups grated cheese (such as Gouda or Edam)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup heavy cream
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Layer half of the sliced potatoes in a greased baking dish.
- Sprinkle half of the grated cheese and half of the minced garlic over the potatoes.
- Season with salt and pepper.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, cheese, and garlic.
- Pour the heavy cream over the top of the casserole.
- Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
