Cheese Noodles, also known as Kasnocken, are a traditional Austrian dish that is perfect for a cozy night in. This hearty meal features tender egg noodles smothered in a rich and creamy cheese sauce, topped with crispy onions for added texture and flavor.
Ingredients
- 8 oz egg noodles
- 1 cup shredded Emmental cheese
- 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Boil the egg noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook until golden and crispy. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, combine the heavy cream, Emmental cheese, and Gruyère cheese. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until the cheese is melted and the sauce is smooth.
- Add the cooked egg noodles to the cheese sauce and toss to coat evenly. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Divide the cheese noodles among serving plates and top with the crispy onions.
