Cheese Puffs (gougères)
Cheese puffs, also known as Gougères, are a classic French appetizer made with choux pastry and Gruyère cheese. These light and airy puffs are perfect for entertaining or as a snack.
Ingredients
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 4 eggs
- 1 1/2 cups grated Gruyère cheese
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a saucepan, bring the water, butter, and salt to a boil. Add the flour and stir vigorously until the mixture forms a ball.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the mixture cool for 5 minutes. Then, add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- Stir in the grated Gruyère cheese.
- Drop the dough by spoonfuls onto the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 25 minutes or until the cheese puffs are golden brown and puffed.
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
