Cheeselet Wrap (ġbejniet Wrap)
This Cheeselet Wrap, also known as Ġbejniet Wrap, is a traditional Maltese dish that features the delicious local cheeselet, Ġbejniet, wrapped in a soft and fluffy flatbread.
Ingredients
- 4 Ġbejniet (Maltese cheeselets)
- 4 soft flatbreads
- 1 tomato, sliced
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- Fresh basil leaves
- 4 tbsp olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Heat a non-stick pan over medium heat.
- Place the flatbreads on the pan and warm them for about 1 minute on each side.
- In a separate pan, heat the olive oil and sauté the onion until golden brown.
- Place a cheeselet in the center of each flatbread.
- Top the cheeselet with sliced tomato, sautéed onion, and fresh basil leaves.
- Season with salt and pepper.
- Wrap the flatbread around the filling, securing it with toothpicks if needed.
- Return the wraps to the pan and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove the toothpicks and serve hot.
