Cheesy Baked Pasta, also known as Bajan Macaroni Pie, is a classic dish in Montserrat Cuisine. This creamy and indulgent pasta bake is a favorite at gatherings and family meals.
Ingredients
- 2 cups elbow macaroni
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
- 2 cups milk
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon mustard powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cook the macaroni according to package instructions, then drain and set aside.
- In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour, mustard powder, salt, and pepper until smooth.
- Slowly pour in the milk while stirring continuously until the mixture thickens.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat. Gradually stir in the beaten eggs, then add 1 1/2 cups of cheddar cheese and the parmesan cheese, stirring until melted.
- Combine the cooked macaroni with the cheese sauce, then pour into a greased baking dish.
- Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of cheddar cheese on top.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
