Cheesy Spinach Burek
Cheesy Spinach Burek is a delicious savory pastry dish that originates from Palatine cuisine. It is made with layers of flaky phyllo dough filled with a mixture of spinach, feta cheese, and herbs, then baked to golden perfection.
Ingredients
- 6 sheets of phyllo dough
- 2 cups fresh spinach, chopped
- 1 cup feta cheese, crumbled
- 1/4 cup ricotta cheese
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup melted butter
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, mix together the spinach, feta cheese, ricotta cheese, Parmesan cheese, parsley, salt, and pepper.
- Place one sheet of phyllo dough on a clean surface and brush it with melted butter. Repeat with 2 more sheets, stacking them on top of each other.
- Spoon half of the spinach and cheese mixture along the long edge of the phyllo stack, then roll it up into a log shape.
- Repeat the process with the remaining phyllo sheets and filling to make a second burek.
- Place the bureks on a baking sheet and brush the tops with more melted butter.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the bureks are golden brown and crispy.
- Let them cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
