Chemeen Barthad (coorgi Style Prawn Fry)

Ingredients

  • 500g prawns, cleaned and deveined
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 1 tomato, finely chopped
  • 2 green chilies, slit
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 2 teaspoons red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil
  • Few curry leaves
  • Coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Marinate the prawns with turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala, and salt. Keep aside for 10 minutes.
  2. Heat coconut oil in a pan and add the chopped onions. Sauté until they turn golden brown.
  3. Add the ginger-garlic paste and green chilies. Sauté for a few minutes.
  4. Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn mushy.
  5. Add the marinated prawns and curry leaves. Cook for 5-7 minutes until the prawns are cooked through.
  6. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
