Chemmeen Masala (sweet And Sour Prawn Masala)

Ingredients

  • 500g prawns, cleaned and deveined
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 3 tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 1 green chili, slit
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 tablespoon tamarind paste
  • 2 tablespoons jaggery or brown sugar
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pan and sauté the onions until golden brown.
  2. Add the ginger-garlic paste and green chili, and sauté for a few minutes.
  3. Add the tomatoes and cook until they turn mushy.
  4. Stir in the turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and cumin powder. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Add the tamarind paste, jaggery or brown sugar, and salt. Mix well.
  6. Add the prawns and cook for 5-7 minutes or until they are cooked through.
  7. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot.
