Chemmeen Ularthiyathu (Prawns Stir-Fry)
Prawns Stir-Fry (Chemmeen Ularthiyathu) is a popular dish from Kerala cuisine, known for its bold flavors and aromatic spices. This dish is a perfect combination of succulent prawns and a rich blend of spices, making it a delightful treat for seafood lovers.
Ingredients
- 500g prawns, cleaned and deveined
- 2 onions, thinly sliced
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 1 inch ginger, julienned
- 4-5 garlic cloves, minced
- 2-3 green chilies, slit
- 1 sprig curry leaves
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 2 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tbsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp garam masala
- Salt to taste
- 3 tbsp coconut oil
Instructions
- Heat coconut oil in a pan and add sliced onions. Sauté until golden brown.
- Add ginger, garlic, green chilies, and curry leaves. Sauté for a few minutes.
- Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and coriander powder. Cook until the raw smell disappears.
- Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn mushy.
- Add the cleaned prawns and salt. Stir well to coat the prawns with the masala.
- Cover and cook for 5-7 minutes until the prawns are cooked through.
- Sprinkle garam masala and give it a final mix. Cook for another 2-3 minutes.
- Remove from heat and serve hot with steamed rice or roti.
