Cherry Pie (plăcintă Cu Vișine)

Ingredients

  • 4 cups pitted cherries
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 package store-bought pie crusts (2 crusts)
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the pitted cherries, sugar, cornstarch, vanilla extract, almond extract, and salt until well combined.
  2. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  3. Roll out one pie crust and place it in a 9-inch pie dish.
  4. Pour the cherry filling into the pie crust.
  5. Roll out the second pie crust and place it on top of the cherry filling. Trim and crimp the edges to seal the pie.
  6. Brush the top crust with the beaten egg to create a golden finish.
  7. Make several small slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
  8. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
  9. Allow the pie to cool before serving.
