Cherry Strudel (Čerešňový štrúdl)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cherries, pitted
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 6 sheets phyllo dough
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix the pitted cherries, sugar, and cinnamon.
  3. Place one sheet of phyllo dough on a clean surface and brush it with melted butter. Sprinkle with breadcrumbs.
  4. Repeat with the remaining phyllo sheets, stacking them on top of each other.
  5. Spoon the cherry mixture along one long edge of the phyllo stack, leaving a border on the sides.
  6. Roll up the phyllo stack, enclosing the cherry filling.
  7. Transfer the strudel to a baking sheet and brush the top with melted butter.
  8. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the strudel is golden brown.
  9. Sprinkle with powdered sugar before serving.
