Chicken Biryani is a popular dish in Tatar cuisine, known for its aromatic flavors and tender chicken. This Tatar Style Chicken Biryani recipe is a delightful combination of spices, rice, and succulent chicken, creating a truly satisfying meal.
Ingredients
- 2 cups basmati rice
- 1 lb chicken, cut into pieces
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1-inch ginger, grated
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
- 1/4 cup chopped mint leaves
- 1/4 cup cooking oil
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 4 cardamom pods
- 6 whole cloves
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- Salt to taste
- 2 cups water
Instructions
- Wash the basmati rice and soak it in water for 30 minutes.
- In a large pot, heat the cooking oil and add the cumin seeds, cinnamon stick, cardamom pods, and whole cloves. Sauté until fragrant.
- Add the sliced onions and cook until golden brown.
- Add the minced garlic and grated ginger, and cook for 2 minutes.
- Stir in the chicken pieces and cook until they are no longer pink.
- Next, add the chopped tomatoes, turmeric, red chili powder, salt, plain yogurt, chopped cilantro, and mint leaves. Cook for 5 minutes.
- Drain the soaked rice and add it to the pot. Pour in the water and bring to a boil.
- Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let it simmer for 20 minutes or until the rice and chicken are fully cooked.
- Fluff the biryani with a fork and serve hot.
