Chicken Paprikash (Курица по-паприке)
Курица по-паприке (Chicken Paprikash) is a classic dish from Belarusian cuisine, known for its rich and flavorful sauce made with paprika and sour cream. This comforting dish is perfect for a cozy family dinner or a special occasion.
Ingredients
- 1 whole chicken, cut into pieces
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons sweet paprika
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1 cup sour cream
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Instructions
- Season the chicken pieces with salt, pepper, and 1 tablespoon of paprika.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the chicken pieces and brown them on all sides. Remove the chicken from the pot and set aside.
- In the same pot, add the chopped onions and cook until they are soft and translucent. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
- Stir in the remaining tablespoon of paprika, then pour in the chicken broth and return the chicken pieces to the pot. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then cover and cook for 45 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through.
- Stir in the sour cream and cook for an additional 5 minutes. Adjust the seasoning with salt and pepper, if needed.
- Serve the chicken paprikash hot, accompanied by your choice of side dishes.
