Chicken Paprikash (Kuracie paprikáš)
Kuracie paprikáš, or Chicken Paprikash, is a classic Slovak dish known for its rich and creamy paprika sauce. This comforting meal is perfect for a cozy family dinner or a special occasion.
Ingredients
- 4 chicken thighs
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons sweet paprika
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1 cup sour cream
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the chicken thighs and brown them on both sides. Remove the chicken from the pot and set aside.
- In the same pot, add the chopped onion and cook until translucent. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute.
- Stir in the sweet paprika and cook for a few seconds to release its flavor. Be careful not to burn the paprika.
- Pour in the chicken broth and return the chicken thighs to the pot. Season with salt and pepper. Cover and simmer for 45 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through.
- Once the chicken is cooked, remove it from the pot. Gradually stir in the sour cream to create a creamy sauce. Return the chicken to the pot and heat through.
- Serve the kuracie paprikáš hot, garnished with a dollop of sour cream and a sprinkle of fresh parsley. Enjoy with a side of dumplings or bread.
