Ingredients

  • 1 kg chicken, cut into pieces
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 2 potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 2 green chilies, slit
  • 1/2 cup mustard oil
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon kasundi (Bengali mustard sauce)
  • Salt to taste
  • 4 cups water

Instructions

  1. Heat mustard oil in a deep pan and add the chopped onions. Sauté until golden brown.
  2. Add the chicken pieces, turmeric powder, and red chili powder. Cook until the chicken is browned.
  3. Add the chopped tomatoes, potatoes, green chilies, and salt. Cook for 5 minutes.
  4. Pour in the water and kasundi. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes or until the chicken is tender.
  5. Adjust the seasoning and serve hot with steamed rice.
