Chicken Xacuti
Chicken Xacuti is a classic dish from the Goan Catholic Cuisine, known for its rich and aromatic flavors. This dish is a perfect blend of Portuguese and Indian influences, making it a unique and delicious addition to any meal.
Ingredients
- 1 whole chicken, cut into pieces
- 2 onions, finely chopped
- 4 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1-inch ginger, grated
- 1/2 cup grated coconut
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon coriander seeds
- 1 teaspoon fennel seeds
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 4-5 dry red chilies
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 4-5 cloves
- 4-5 black peppercorns
- 1 tablespoon tamarind paste
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Instructions
- Dry roast the cumin seeds, coriander seeds, fennel seeds, dry red chilies, cinnamon stick, cloves, and black peppercorns in a pan until fragrant. Grind the roasted spices into a fine powder.
- Heat oil in a pan and sauté the onions, garlic, and ginger until golden brown.
- Add the chicken pieces and cook until they are browned.
- Add the ground spice powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for a few minutes.
- Add the grated coconut and tamarind paste. Stir well and cook for another 10-15 minutes until the chicken is cooked through and the flavors are well combined.
- Serve hot with steamed rice or crusty bread.
