Chicken Xacuti Biryani
Chicken Xacuti Biryani is a delicious and aromatic Goan Catholic dish that combines the flavors of Xacuti spice blend with the beloved biryani. This fusion dish is a perfect way to enjoy the rich and spicy flavors of Goan cuisine in a comforting biryani format.
Ingredients
- 2 cups basmati rice
- 500g chicken, cut into pieces
- 1 cup yogurt
- 2 onions, thinly sliced
- 3 tomatoes, chopped
- 4 green chilies, slit
- 1/2 cup coconut milk
- 2 tbsp Xacuti masala
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1/4 cup chopped coriander leaves
- 1/4 cup chopped mint leaves
- Salt to taste
- 3 tbsp ghee
- Whole spices (cinnamon, cardamom, cloves)
- 2 bay leaves
- 2 cups water
Instructions
- Marinate the chicken pieces with yogurt, Xacuti masala, turmeric powder, ginger-garlic paste, and salt. Let it marinate for 30 minutes.
- Rinse the basmati rice and soak it in water for 30 minutes. Drain the water and set aside.
- In a large pot, heat ghee and add the whole spices and bay leaves. Sauté until fragrant.
- Add the sliced onions and green chilies. Sauté until the onions turn golden brown.
- Add the marinated chicken and cook until the chicken is partially cooked.
- Add the chopped tomatoes, coconut milk, and water. Bring to a boil.
- Stir in the soaked basmati rice and adjust the seasoning. Cover and cook until the rice and chicken are fully cooked.
- Garnish with chopped coriander and mint leaves. Serve hot.
