Chicken Xacuti Biryani

Chicken Xacuti Biryani is a delicious and aromatic Goan Catholic dish that combines the flavors of Xacuti spice blend with the beloved biryani. This fusion dish is a perfect way to enjoy the rich and spicy flavors of Goan cuisine in a comforting biryani format.

Chicken Xacuti Biryani

Ingredients

  • 2 cups basmati rice
  • 500g chicken, cut into pieces
  • 1 cup yogurt
  • 2 onions, thinly sliced
  • 3 tomatoes, chopped
  • 4 green chilies, slit
  • 1/2 cup coconut milk
  • 2 tbsp Xacuti masala
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1/4 cup chopped coriander leaves
  • 1/4 cup chopped mint leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • 3 tbsp ghee
  • Whole spices (cinnamon, cardamom, cloves)
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 2 cups water

Instructions

  1. Marinate the chicken pieces with yogurt, Xacuti masala, turmeric powder, ginger-garlic paste, and salt. Let it marinate for 30 minutes.
  2. Rinse the basmati rice and soak it in water for 30 minutes. Drain the water and set aside.
  3. In a large pot, heat ghee and add the whole spices and bay leaves. Sauté until fragrant.
  4. Add the sliced onions and green chilies. Sauté until the onions turn golden brown.
  5. Add the marinated chicken and cook until the chicken is partially cooked.
  6. Add the chopped tomatoes, coconut milk, and water. Bring to a boil.
  7. Stir in the soaked basmati rice and adjust the seasoning. Cover and cook until the rice and chicken are fully cooked.
  8. Garnish with chopped coriander and mint leaves. Serve hot.
